They Once Were Kittens
And because for kittens, you don’t need an excuse to show photos.
These kittens are now grand old ladies, aged around 17 I think, and they are both still with us although they are obviously getting on a bit (I will resist the temptation to say “much like their owner” because this would no doubt lead to my mother giving me a thick ear). Minnie is the one with the white paws, Martha is entirely black.
This photo was taken in the first few days of them coming to our house, when we fortuitously had a cardboard box ‘fortress’ for them to play with.
And this one…
…is of ‘Minnie Short-Tail’. Minnie, when she was only a young cat (probably around 1 year old) somehow had a nasty injury to her tail, which meant that the end of it had to be amputated. Well, I say “the end”, but it was probably almost half of it. Fortunately, she’d started out with a stupidly long tail (which probably contributed to the problem) so even after losing the end of it, she still had enough of a tail to help her balance, jump etc.
As you can see, in this photo she was feeling sorry for herself: she had a shaved patch on her leg where she’d had injections; the last few inches of her tail were shaved and she had one of those big white plastic collars on.
They once were kittens. Now they’re old. Does anyone else feel like that yet?
