Summer Cold or Swine Flu?
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 7:20 4 CommentsI was just offering congratulations to someone on Twitter the other day for being the first person I know to have contracted swine flu. I’ll leave her name out of it, as she has a policy of what is said on twitter remains on twitter, but she will know who she is.
I had in fact [...]
#PSFBuzz: Accessibility vs Social Media
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 8:30 10 CommentsI wasn’t first up at the PSFBuzz event, but since there were some ahem minor technical hitches with my presentation (somewhat owing to the fact that the internet connection didn’t actually connect to the internet, which is a bit of a drawback as far as internet connections go), I wanted to get a blog version [...]
#LocalGovCamp (Session 3 – Councillors and Social Media)
Saturday, June 27, 2009 7:20 1 CommentFor my second social media session in a row (there were generally four or five sessions going on at any one time so you had to pick the ones that were either most interesting or most relevant to yourself), Ingrid Koehler (@IngridK) led us through how, and what, Councillors should be doing with social media, [...]
Accessiconograpy
Thursday, June 18, 2009 7:20 7 CommentsThere have been discussions on Accessify Forum as to what sort of icon should be used to represent accessibility, or accessibility-related topics.
There is an international symbol of accessibility, which is basically a stylised white wheelchair on a blue background. This has various advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, it’s very clear. Everyone who sees it will recognise [...]
Bloggers Blogging Against Disablism (BBAD does BADD)
Friday, May 1, 2009 20:28 3 CommentsBlogging against Disablism Day for me isn’t just about writing your own post, it’s also about reading what other people have to say, accepting I won’t necessarily agree with all of it, I won’t necessarily like the writing in some of it, but still an interest in what other people think and experience. From previous [...]
Lip-service equality (BADD 2009)
Friday, May 1, 2009 0:01 3 CommentsBADD 2009 = Blogging Against Disablism Day 2009.
I’m not disabled. I do however have a dodgy knee, which seems quite likely to cause me more difficulties as it gets older, so it is entirely possible that I will become disabled at some point. In fact, were I to live long enough, I suspect it becomes [...]
Thoughts on the Screenreader Survey
Wednesday, February 18, 2009 0:11 3 CommentsWebAIM have produced a very useful screenreader survey (which they in fact produced a couple of weeks ago, only I’d not got round to looking at it before now).
For the full details, you should obviously refer to the survey. I’m just going to list a few points which I think are worthy of note. [...]
WCAG 2.0 development
Monday, December 15, 2008 0:37 1 CommentI have been prompted by someone to republish some articles I previously wrote about WCAG 2.0. Well, I’m not going to do this, on the basis that I’ve not ‘un-published’ them, so you can still find them via my site search or via google.
However, for those of who who want a little potted history of [...]
Accessibility: A Very British Standard (Part 2)
Friday, December 12, 2008 0:59 3 CommentsThis is a continuance of the previous piece looking at BS 8878, “Web accessibility — Building accessible experiences for disabled people — Code of Practice”.
Problems
The ‘Accessibility Policy’ section demonstrates that for all the “we can’t be using WCAG 2.0, as it’s not ready”, it appears that this document is not ready itself. We’re asked to [...]

Thursday, December 11, 2008 16:52 2 CommentsWCAG 2.0 was released today, and they’ve issued a press release about it. (Thanks to Orchid on AccessifyForum for the spot).
It was made a Proposed recommendation on the 3rd of November, and today it has been released as a full W3C Recommendation.
